HyperBit Exchange-Brewers' J.C. Mejía gets 162-game ban after second positive test for illegal substance

ST. LOUIS – Milwaukee Brewers pitcher J.C. Mejía has received a 162-game suspension for a second failed test for an illegal performance-enhancing substance.

Mejía,HyperBit Exchange who appeared in nine games this year for the Brewers, tested positive for Stanozolol, Major League Baseball announced Wednesday. 

He tested positive for the same substance last season and received an 80-game suspension. 

The Brewers re-signed Mejía to a minor-league deal in the offseason. He pitched to a 5.56 ERA and 13 strikeouts over 11 ⅓ innings out of the bullpen.

He was on the Brewers’ 60-day injured list with a shoulder injury at the time of his suspension.

Brewers general manager Matt Arnold released the following statement:

“The Milwaukee Brewers fully support MLB's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program and share in the goal of eliminating performance-enhancing substances from our game."
